Music Media Ministry, in collaboration with Old Pine Presbyterian Church of Society Hill, presents The Philadelphia Jazz Nativity - an innovative celebration of the Christmas Nativity Story presented in the format and frame of the jazz music idiom. The production is an intertwining of narration, drawn directly from biblical passages, and music performance of contemporary and progressive jazz arrangements of traditional and original Christmas music. The characters represented include the wise men, shepherds, the heavenly host of angels and the innkeeper, as well as Mary and Joseph. The story is told by a special guest celebrity narrator and the musically theatric production will feature a jazz ensemble, choir and artists of local, national and international stature.

Featured artists in the production include Philadelphia Jazz Saxophone Legend Bootsie Barnes; internationally renowned Sacred Jazz Vocalist Ruth Naomi Floyd; Philadelphia’s sweetheart of jazz Denise King, and Leon Alexander – lead percussionist and unit leader of the United States Navy Band assigned to the President of the United States.  Other artists include Gina Roche, Chiquita Green, Warren Cooper, and the Critical Mass Choir.
